ATLANTA, GA, September 14, 2015 – BrainJocks’ Emily Lord served as guest speaker at a STEMposium hosted last week by Woodstock High School’s WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) Club. Lord met with high school girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in a lunch-and-learn setting. She shared experiences gained in her journey from high school through college to a career as a Front-end Developer at BrainJocks, a web technology and strategy solutions provider.

"We launched the STEMposium series to give girls in our WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) Club the opportunity to hear from women professionals and college students across a variety of STEM fields. The kids have learned so much from speakers like Emily--STEM women just like them who have traveled a similar path and progressed to successful careers," said Kelly Burke, WiSE Club Sponsor at Woodstock High School. "We're thrilled that BrainJocks offered support for the program."

“I was excited to have the opportunity to inspire these young girls and to address any apprehension they may have about their future studies in STEM fields,” said Emily. “It was wonderful to pass on knowledge that I’ve gained in my recent years in the tech field, and I hope to have left them with confidence and excitement about the future.

Woodstock High School’s STEMposia, led by WiSE Club Sponsor and Science Department Chair Kelly Burke, creates a collaborative, supportive environment for girls interested in STEM fields. Engaging with local businesses like BrainJocks increases girls’ visibility to opportunities in IT, encourages their interest in Science and Engineering careers and exposes them to successful role models.
